Airth Highland Games has a history going back to at least 1871. There is a local legend that the games that were held last weekend originated in the games and sports played by Prince James's rebel soldiers while they camped in Airth in 1488, on their way to the battle of Sauchieburn.

Whatever its origin, the games is a really popular event in Airth, which is why we decided to get stuck in and sponsor the tug-o’-war event this year.
